Drop All Subtlety – Alms Giving in Thai Temples

I admit it – of all the bizarre alms boxes and ingenuous artifacts to collect donations to be found in Buddhist temples across Thailand and Laos, I found my favourite inside the beautiful Wat Wang Wiwekaram, a few kilometres from the city of Sangkhlaburi, where the Kanchanaburi province meets Myanmar.

You wonder how the bills stick together? Simple – by using paperclips.

A candid, but, by the look of it, highly effective method for raising funds. In comparison, the coin fed votive lamps found in Roman Catholic churches appear, well…nicely Medieval.
